Racism and Christianity are Not Compatible

There is no room in the teaching of scripture for racism on any level. In fact, one cannot love God and accept any form of racism, oppression, or systems that hold a person or a people group down. If these words seem strong or harsh, they should. They should wake us up and cause us to take personal and corporate inventory.  They should inspire us to prayerfully consider any area where we hold prejudicial or racial biases. To be clear, these are not our words but the words of the apostle John, who wrote: Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8 NIV

Grace Community Church wants to be crystal clear that we denounce any and all forms of racism and are committed to standing with all people for equal opportunity and treatment. We are a mosaic striving to live like Jesus who, in fact, showed no partiality (Romans 2:11). We are also committed to standing for and fighting for justice, because we know that God loves justice (Isaiah 61:8).

An Update from

PASTOR DOUG

Grace Family,

After much prayer and conversation with elders, staff, and the medical community from Grace, we have made the difficult decision to go online only on Sundays for at least the next three weeks.

This has been one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in a long time. I love the gathering, and being with you again in the church has nourished my soul, yet this is what we sense the Lord is directing us to do.

In the wake of this decision, I was asked if we were operating in fear. The simple answer is, no, our desire is to be wise and to care well for our church family. We are not fearful; we are confident that God is bigger than a pandemic. In the same way we look both ways before we cross the street, or wear a seatbelt when we drive, this is the wise course of action.

Please stick with us at Grace as we do our best to lead well and foster a safe place to become more and more like Jesus. Tune in at 9 or 11AM and be a part of the good work God is doing in and through our church.

Pray for us as we continue to pray for you. If you have any questions, please reply to this email and I will get back to you in a timely manner.

On the journey with you,
Pastor Doug

WE ARE A MOSAIC STRIVING TO LIVE LIKE JESUS.

We celebrate a unique diversity at Grace Community Church. Our city is broken in many ways–people are divided by race, economics, life experiences and heritage. At Grace, our desire is to take these fragments of brokenness and bring them together to form a beautiful mosaic where we can find unity through Jesus. We welcome people from all stages and walks of life, regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey.
